The appellation Languedoc-Montpeyroux is located in the centre of the French wine growing region Languedoc. It was classified as AOC in 1985 and belongs to the second quality category "Grands Vins du Languedoc". The vineyards cover 300 hectares of vineyards at an altitude of 120 to 350 metres above sea level at the foot of the Lazarc plateau on soils of limestone, volcanic rock, gravel, marl and red clay(Terra Rossa). They cover the municipalities of Arboras and Montpeyroux in the department of Hérault. The red wine is blended from at least 2 of the 3 main varieties Grenache Noir(Garnacha Tinta), Mourvèdre(Monastrell) and Syrah, as well as Carignan Noir(Mazuelo) and Cinsaut. Well known producers are Domaine L'Aiguelière and Montpeyroux Coopérative Artisanale.
