Municipal appellation named after the community of the same name. It is located as an enclave in the centre of the Touraine area, east of the city of Tours. AC Montlouis, which had already existed since 1938, was extended to its current name in 2002. The area is bordered to the north by the Loire and to the south by its tributary the Cher and faces the more famous Vouvray. The vineyards cover 240 hectares of vines on clayey soils, some of which are covered with sand. The white wine is made from Chenin Blanc (Pineau de la Loire) and is aged dry to sweet. AC Montlouis-sur-Loire Mousseux is for sparkling wine, AC Montlouis-sur-Loire Pétillant for semi-sparkling wine. Well-known producers are Berger, Domaine de Bodet, Domaine des Liards, Thierry Chaput, Delétang, Domaine de la Milletière, Dominique Moyer and Frantz Saumon.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
