The mountainous state dominated by the Rocky Montains with the capital Helena is located in the northwest of the USA. There is no area defined as AVA. Due to adverse climatic conditions such as cold air rains and blizzards and the relatively short vegetation period, mainly French hybrids and American vines are cultivated. These include La Crosse, Frontenac, Léon Millot, Maréchal Foch, St. Croix, St. Pepin and Swenson Red. International varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. We also process grapes from California, Oregon and Washington. Well-known wineries are Lolo Peak Winery and Mission Mountain Winery.
