Monopolies

Especially in Burgundy, France, a common designation for a vineyard site with appellation status in the sole possession of a producer or winery. The wines are usually marketed with the site name. Some examples are the Grand Cru site La Tâche owned by Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, the Grand Cru site Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot of Domaine de la Vougeraie ( Boisset family business), Château-Grillet of the (almost) eponymous winery and Clos de Tart. In the German-speaking world, monopollage is commonly used for this. See also Appellation d'Origine Protégée, Burgundy Classification and a complete list of relevant keywords under Vineyard.
