Austrian term for a drink made from wine and mineral water (i.e. not soda water). In contrast, a Gespritzter is prepared with soda or mineral water. For the mixture there is also the old Viennese term "Achterl mit Gieß" or just "Gieß", which refers to the once very famous mineral water "Gießhübler Sauerbrunn" from Bohemia. A mixture of wine and apple juice is popular in Styria (Austria) as "Kaisermischung". See also under mixed wine drinks and wine-based drinks.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
