The winery is located in the municipality of Monsheim (Wonnegau area) in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. There is documentary evidence of viticulture in the traditional Milch family since 1709. The farm is located in a former flour mill whose history dates back to 1413. In 1926, the Milch family acquired the mill and started winegrowing, arable farming, fruit growing and animal husbandry. As early as the beginning of the 1950s, wines were bottled and sold. At the end of the 1970s, the estate finally specialised in viticulture. Today, the estate is owned by Karl-Hermann Milch. The vineyards cover 13 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Rosengarten and Silberberg (Monsheim), as well as Nonnengarten (Mörstadt). They are planted with the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Müller-Thurgau, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Frühburgunder and Cabernet Sauvignon. Various wines made from Chardonnay are a speciality. The white wines are mainly vinified dry. The red wines mature in large wooden bar rels or in barrique, depending on the wine style. Around 65,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Grape marc brandies are also produced.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
