Michurinets

The red grape variety is an interspecific new variety between Amurensis x Getsh. Synonyms are Michurinetz, Michurnits, Michurnitz, Miczurinoweic and Polish Miczurinowiec. Genes of Vitis amurensis and Vitis vinifera are included. The hybrid was crossed in the Amur Valley in Eastern Siberia. The variety is extremely resistant to frost down to minus 30 °C and is therefore particularly suitable for cold regions. It produces red wines that are rich in colour and acidity. The variety is cultivated in some states of the former USSR, in Eastern Europe, in Canada (0.4 ha) and in New York State (Finger Lakes). In 2016, however, only the Canadian stock was reported (Kym Anderson statistics).
