Subzone (also Meraner, Ital. Meranese di Collina or Meranese) for red wine within the DOC area Südtiroler (Alto Adige) in the Italian winegrowing area South Tyrol (in the dual region Trentino-South Ty rol). The zone includes the southern and southwestern slopes around the city of Merano on both sides of the Adige river in the municipalities of Algund (Lagundo), Burgstall (Postal), Gargazon (Gargazzone), Kuens (Caines), Lana (Lana), Tscherms (Cermes), Marling (Marlengo), Merano (Meran), Riffian (Rifiano), Schenna (Scena), St. Pankraz (San Pancrazio), Tisens (Tesimo) and Dorf Tirol (Tirolo). The wines from the historic sites around the historic Castle Tyrol are allowed to use the designation "Burggräfler" (Ital. del Burgraviato). If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna may be indicated followed by the vineyard name. The wine must contain at least 85% Vernatsch varieties (Schiava); 15% can be other varieties. It is also called "Merano house wine".
