The red grape variety (also Verdial Vinhos Verdes) originates from Portugal. The parentage is unknown. Despite morphological similarities, it should not be confused with the Amaral variety. It is cultivated in the area of Trás-os-Montes; in 2016, a tiny stock of 0.1 hectares of vineyards was reported here (Kym Anderson).
