The white grape variety originates from Croatia. Synonyms are Botun, Botun Bijela, Buboj, Bumba, Bumba Bijeli, Medena, Medna Bijela, Medva, Rizavac and Zložder. The parentage is unknown. The high-yielding vine is resistant to most fungal diseases. It yields light, acidic white wines with a characteristic honey aroma that gives it its name. The variety is mainly grown in the Dalmatinska Zagora region (Dalmatian hinterland) between Split and Dubrovnik. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
