Designation for a grape variety with high vigour, which is oriented towards a high yield. Most of the time, such varieties deliver a rather simple wine quality, which serves as a blending partner or also as a single variety for mass wines produced in large quantities (industrial wines). High yields are usually in contradiction to quality, and one of the important factors for high-quality wines, besides optimal ripeness, is a "correct" (rather low) amount of grapes per hectare. That is why there are always yield limits for quality wines. If necessary, yields can be reduced by appropriate measures such as vine training pruning and, above all, by thinning out, thus positively influencing the quality.
