The winery is located in the municipality of Gratallops in the Spanish DOCa area of Priorato (Catalonia). It was founded in 1989 by the biology professor José Luis Pérez i Verdú. As a young man, he worked in Switzerland as a hairdresser and taxi driver to finance his studies. Today he is a full-time professor of oenology at the University of Tarragona. Pérez is considered the real founder of the great success in the field. He was the mentor and advisor for the other young winemakers who made a sensation from the end of the 1980s. There were remarkable joint ventures with the two producers Cims de Porrera and Vall-Llach. In the Spanish gourmet magazine "Sibaritas" Pérez was voted "hombre del año" (man of the year) for his life's work in 2005. Today the Mas Martinet estate is managed by his daughter Sara Pérez.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
