Martini summer

A term commonly used in German-speaking countries (also known as Martinssommer) for a period of fine weather in the first third of November with stable high-pressure conditions, which enables a late grape harvest (November harvest). It is one of the meteorological singularities (recurring) in the annual vegetation cycle, similar to the ice saints in May, the sheep cold in June and the Indian summer in September. In 2006, Germany experienced a somewhat belated Martini summer, which began around 14 November and lasted until almost the end of the month. On 15 and 16 November, temperature records for this period were broken in large parts of Germany.
