Marque déposée

French term for trademark; see under branded wine.

Colloquial term (without legal meaning) for wines with a certain flavour or a wine style with a characteristic, unmistakable typicity. They are becoming increasingly important in the course of globalisation. They are characterised by a flavour profile that is independent of the vintage and almost always the same, which is conceived and produced precisely according to consumer wishes.

It is therefore not uncommon for branded wines to be categorised as Coca-Cola wines (McDonald's wines), which wine connoisseurs tend to disparage on account of their uniform taste. However, this does not a priori mean that the quality of the product is inferior, but in most cases they are not absolute top wines, as these products have to be in the lower price segment in order to reach the masses. Both the origin and the grape variety often take a back seat, although the latter can also signify a certain brand definition.

Markenwein - Flaschen: Lancers, Liebfraumilch, Mateus, Mouton Cadet, Amselfelder

High production volumes

The aim is to appeal to new groups of buyers in non-traditional wine-growing countries who are not or not (yet) wine connoisseurs. Recognition value by name...
