The Republic of Libyen (Arabic: ليبيا Lībiyā) in the north Afrika with its capital Tripoli covers 1,759,541 km². It borders the Mittelmeer to the north, Ägypten and Sudan to the east, Niger and Tschad to the south, and Tunesien and Algerien to the west. The cultivation of wine in North Africa was established by the Phönizier. The climate is dry and hot. In 2022, the vineyard area covered 9,805 hectares, and the Wein-Produktionsmengen were 1,000 hectoliters. The grapes are mostly used for the production of Tafeltraube due to the Islamic Alkoholverbot. The grape varieties cultivated are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.
