The state in the north of Africa with the capital Tripoli borders the Mediterranean to the north, Egypt and Sudan to the east, Niger and Chad to the south and Tunisia and Algeria to the west. Viticulture in North Africa was established by the Phoenicians. The climate is dry and hot. In 2021, the vineyards covered 8,747 hectares, most of which were used for the production of table grapes. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are cultivated as Celtic varieties.
