Legno

Italian term (also "in legno") for wood. In Italian wine descriptions, it means that the wine was matured in a wooden barrel. This can be a traditional large wooden bar rel, but also barrique (the latter is usually explicitly stated). See also under oak and barrel ageing.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
