Le Bonheur Wine Estate

The winery is located on Klapmuts Hill on the northern Simonsberg in the South African wine district of Stellenbosch. It was founded in 1790 by the French Huguenot family De Villiers. The vineyards lay fallow for over half a century before a new start was made in 1972. After an exact analysis of the soil, a new planting of vines was carried out and an irrigation system installed. Today it is owned by Lusan Premium Wines Ltd, Winemaker is Sakkie Kotzé. The vineyards cover 72 hectares, the soil consists of weathered granite, red clay and sand. They are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinotage, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. The premium wines of the house are the cuvée "Prima" (75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon) and a Cabernet Sauvignon. Around 400,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.
