Laudun

Independent municipal area in the Département Gard in the southern French appellation Côtes du Rhône-Villages (see AOC regulations there). In addition to Laudun, the area also includes the two municipalities of Saint-Victor-la-Coste and Tresques. The name Laudun may also be mentioned on the label. Wine growing dates back to Roman times. In the 17th century, Laudun was one of the famous wines that were allowed to use the name "Côte du Rhône Gardois". According to an old legend going back to the cult of the sun, a golden goat surrounded by a circle of flames appears in a ravine every year on 24 June. The vineyards cover 475 hectares of vineyards on stony, gravelly soils. Red, rosé and white wines are produced. The latter are among the best of the appellation. Well-known producers are Cave des Quatre Chemins, Château St-Maurice, Domaine Pélaquié and Domaine Rémy Estournel.
