The red grape variety probably originates from Lombardy. Synonyms are Lamper, Lampers, Lampersch and Schwartze Lampersdrauben. It was mentioned by the German priest and botanist Hieronymus Bock (1498-1554). The variety was cultivated in Alsace from the beginning of the 16th century. It was probably Schiava Grossa.
