The DOC area named after the city of the same name is located in the Algarve region deep in the south of Portugal. It comprises the municipal districts of Aljezur, Lagos and Sagres. The high-alcohol red and white wines are made from the indigenous varieties Boal Branco, Negra Mole(Negramoll) and Periquita(Castelão Francês).
