Lacrima di Morro d'Alba (grape variety)

The red grape variety originates from Italy.Synonyms are Lachryma, Lachryma Christi, Lacrima, Lacrima Christi, Lacrima Cristi, Lacrima di Napoli, Lagrima, Lagrima Dolce, Raisin de Vesuve and Serofegno. The parentage is unknown. It should not be confused with other Lacrima varieties due to seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarities. The vigorous vine is susceptible to botrytis. It produces red wines with fine acidity and aromas of wild strawberries and red fruits. The variety is cultivated in the regions of Umbria and Marche. It was saved from extinction in the mid-1980s through a reactivation programme. It is permitted in the DOC wines Colli Maceratesi and Lacrima di Morro d'Alba. In 2016, 252 hectares of vines were recorded (Kym Anderson).
