According to EU food labelling law, the term "batch" refers to all sales units of a foodstuff that are produced, manufactured or packaged under practically identical conditions. This information must consist of a combination of numbers and/or letters. Lot labelling makes it possible to trace a batch of goods back to the producer of the product. In the event of a recall, for example due to a product defect, the food can be quickly and clearly identified.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
