In the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, the first winegrowing enterprises began converting to the farming method initially referred to as integrated-controlled in 1990. At that time, 40 winegrowers from the Palatinate joined together to form the "Integrated Viticulture Palatinate" working group; the German wine-growing regions of Mosel, Rheinhessen and Nahe followed.
