Kutscher Walter

The Austrian wine expert Prof. Dr. Walter Kutscher (*1953) studied German and history at the University of Vienna. He also worked as a teacher for the Schulbrüdern-Währing (teacher, head of the boarding school). The love for wine made his vocation become his profession. After his dissertation at the University of Vienna with the topic "Marketing channels in viticulture", his further career path began.

After working for the ÖWM (Österreich Wein Marketing) as managing director, Kutscher worked as an oenologist in leading positions at important Austrian marketing organisations. Until 2001, he managed the renowned traditional winery, the winegrowers' cooperative Dinstlgut Loiben in the Wachau. Since 2004, he has been a lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Eisenstadt for sensory analysis and international wine marketing, course instructor at the WIFI Vienna and responsible for the diploma sommelier training. He is vice president of the Vienna Sommelier Association and gives lectures at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna.

Walter Kutscher is also active as a journalist and book author, author of many professional articles, collaborator in scientific studies (Federal Office for Viticulture), supervisor of many vinophile projects, wine expert in TV programmes (ORF) and as a professional wine critic. He was awarded the professional title of "Professor" in 2009. His most important publications are "Der Österreichische Wein-Guide 1995 - 1000 Weine, bewertet und beschrieben" (1995), "Österreichs Rote" (2003), "Weinland Niederösterreich" (2003) and "Wein Burgenland" with Christa Hanten (2004).
