The winery is located in the municipality of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler in the German wine-growing region of Ahr. It was founded in 1952 by Peter Kriechel, until then a member of a winegrowers' cooperative, with a cultivated area of 1.5 hectares. In 1969, he handed over the business to his sons Hermann and Ernst, who continuously expanded the area to its current size. Today, the family business is one of the largest private wineries in the Ahr valley. Since 2003, the third generation has been working alongside Ernst Kriechel with his sons Markus and Michael, as well as their cousin Gerd Kriechel. The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vines in the Forstberg, Rosenthal and Steinkaul (Ahrweiler), Kräuterberg, Himmelchen and Pfaffenberg (Walporzheim), and Schieferlay and Sonnenberg (Bad Neuenahr) sites. They are 85% planted with the red wine varieties Spätburgunder (47%), Frühburgunder (15%), Portugieser (7%), Dornfelder (6%), Regent (4%), Domina (4%) and others, and 15% with the white wine varieties Müller-Thurgau (6%), Riesling (3%), Grauburgunder, Optima, Kerner, Würzer, Bacchus and Weißburgunder. Depending on the variety, the wines are matured in stainless steel, old wooden barrels or barriques.
