Mönchberg

A common name for a single vineyard in the German-speaking world, usually derived from a vineyard run or owned by a monastery (monks). See also under Mönchsberg.

Mayschoss - Ahr

The name goes back to the former monastic property of the Augustinian Abbey of Klosterrath near Aachen. The vineyards, which face west to south-east at an altitude of 140 to 260 metres above sea level with a gradient of 10 to 75%, cover 61 hectares of vineyards. They consist of stony to slightly loamy greywacke and slate weathered soils. The adjoining forest above protects against cold air intrusion.
