single vineyard in the municipality of Walporzheim in the German wine-growing region of Ahr. The name probably goes back to the Romans, who cultivated wine and herbs here. The site has been described as one of the best in the Ahr since time immemorial. It largely surrounds the small single vineyard fermentation chamber. The south-facing, terraced vineyard at an altitude of 110 to 180 metres above sea level with a slope of 15 to 60% covers five hectares of vines. The stony soil consists of greywacke and slate weathering with fine sandy loam. Mainly the Pinot Noir variety is cultivated here, as well as Dornfelder and Müller-Thurgau. Shares in the site are held, for example, by the wineries Adeneuer, Ahr Winzer eG, Kriechel Peter, Meyer-Näkel and Weingut Sonnenberg, as well as winegrowers from the Mayschoß-Altenahr winegrowers' cooperative and the Walporzheim wine manufactory.
