Kossuth Lajos

The white grape variety is a new cross between Madeleine Angevine x Dimyat. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, the parentage given in the breeding list (Madeleine Angevine x Muscat Lierval) x Duke of Buccleugh turned out to be wrong. Synonyms are Koshut Zolo, Kossuth Lajos Muskotaly, Kossuth Szoeloe, Kossuthtraube, Kosut, Raisin de Kossuth, Poma Varatica, Stark Magonca, Uva di Kossuth and Varatica. The cross was made by the breeder Rudolf Stark in Hungary. It was named after the folk hero Lajos Kossuth (19802-1894), who declared Hungary's independence from the Habsburg monarchy in 1849. It is used as table grape. No stock was recorded in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
