The white grape variety is a new variety between Muscat d'Hamburg x Chasselas Fontainebleau (Chasselas). Synoyms are Schandl and Schandl Karoly. It was named after the Hungarian politician and son of the freedom hero Lajos Kossuth (after whom the new variety Kossuth Lajos is named). The cross was made in Hungary by János Mathiász (1838-1921). It is mainly used as table grape. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
