The winery is located in the Burgenland municipality of Großhöflein on the southern slope of the Leithagebirge in the Leithaberg wine-growing region (Austria). It has been in the family since 1775. Anton Kollwentz (*1940) is the grand seigneur of Burgenland. In 1963, he pressed his first outbreak outside of Rust. From the early 1970s onwards, he earned a legendary reputation for his dry white wines. With his penchant for perfection and his openness to innovation, Anton Kollwentz became a driving force behind the "Austrian red wine miracle" of the 1980s.

His son Andi returned home to the parental winery after his training at the viticultural school in Klosterneuburg and subsequent internships in France. With the 1993 vintage, he took over responsibility in the cellar and has been managing the estate with his wife Heidi Kollwentz since 2004. The vineyards cover 23 hectares in the vineyards Steinzeiler (already mentioned in 1569), Tatschler, Dürr, Eichkogel, Gloria (at 325 m above sea level the highest site in the Leithagebirge), Haussatz, Point, Setz and Steinmühle. They are 65% planted with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, and 35% with the white wine varieties Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

The flagship is the red wine cuvée Steinzeiler (80% Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zweigelt) created in 1986. Other premium wines are the single-vineyard Blaufränkisch from Point and Setz, the single-vineyard Chardonnays Tatschler, Neusatz and Gloria, and the Sauvignon Blanc Steinmühle. Wines dating back to 1944 can be found in the Vinothek. Around 100,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Brandy is also produced, which is matured in barrels for 21 years. The winery is a member of the Association of Renowned Wineries Burgenland (Anton Kollwentz was the initiator and first president).

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
