The red grape variety comes from Turkey. The parentage (parenthood) is unknown. It is cultivated in Eastern Anatolia, especially in the province of Elazig, where it is often blended with the (often confused with it) variety Köhnü. In 2010, however, no stock was reported (Kym Anderson).
