The winery in the municipality of Kallstadt in the German Palatinate wine region was founded around 1700 by the Ruprecht family. Due to female succession, the names Ruprecht and later Koehler were lost. In 1969 the estate was taken over by Otto Philippi. Today's owner Bernd Philippi worked as an international wine consultant for many years before he took over the business from his father in 1986. Attached is the hotel "Weincastell". Together with Werner Näkel (owner of the winery Meyer-Näkel an der Ahr) and Bernhard Breuer (owner of the winery Georg Breuer in the Rheingau), with whom he had previously worked on several projects, the winery "Quinta da Carvalhosa" was founded in 2000 in the Portuguese Douro Valley. The vineyards in the Palatinate comprise 12.5 hectares of vineyards in Kallstadt's individual sites Kronenberg, Saumagen and Steinacker. They are mostly planted with the varieties Riesling and Pinot Noir, as well as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Dornfelder, Gewürztraminer, Rieslaner, Cabernet Sauvignon, Scheurebe and Kerner
