The winery in the municipality of Kallstadt in the German wine-growing region of Pfalz was founded around 1700 by the Ruprecht family. Due to female succession, the names Ruprecht and later Koehler were lost. In 1969, the estate was taken over by Otto Philippi. The current owner Bernd Philippi worked internationally as a wine consultant for many years before taking over the business from his father in 1986. Attached is the hotel "Weincastell". Together with Werner Näkel (owner of the Meyer-Näkel winery in the Ahr) and Bernhard Breuer (owner of the Georg Breuer winery in the Rheingau), with whom he had previously worked on several projects, the "Quinta da Carvalhosa" winery was founded in 2000 in Portugal's Douro Valley. The vineyards in the Palatinate cover 12.5 hectares of vineyards in the Kallstadt vineyards Kronenberg, Saumagen and Steinacker. They are mainly planted with the varieties Riesling and Spätburgunder, as well as Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder, Chardonnay, Dornfelder, Gewürztraminer, Rieslaner, Cabernet Sauvignon, Scheurebe and Kerner.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
