Kleinedel

The white grape variety was already described in 1836 in the vine variety register by Johann Christian Metzger (1789-1852) and Lambert Joseph von Babo (1790-1862). In 2006, the biologist Andreas Jung rediscovered three vines of the variety that was believed to have been lost in old vineyard terraces on the Bergstrasse in Baden. He succeeded in securing genetic material before the vines were cleared in 2007. The Jochen Beurer winery cultivates the last vines in the replanted Gemischter Satz in the Museumswengert of Kernen-Stetten below the Yburg near Baden-Baden in Württemberg. Kleinedel is also an old synonym for the grape variety Pinot Blanc.
