Kirrweiler Mandelberg

Common single-vineyard designation in Germany. The origin of the name is not clear - there are at least three variants. Mandelberg may actually refer to the tree species or to the shape of the site (ring-shaped). According to a third variant, the name may also be derived from the Old High German "Mandar" for the tree species "pine". The latter would mean that it is a mountain slope covered with pine trees.

The east to south-east facing vineyards at 150 to 250 metres above sea level with a slope of 5 to 20% cover 40 hectares of vineyards. They are protected from the winds to the west by the Palatinate Forest, at the foot of which there are many almond trees that give the vineyards their name.
