Királyleányka

The white grape variety (also known as Dánosi Leányka) originates from Hungary; the name means "royal girl = princess".

Parentage

The parentage has not yet been clarified; there are two versions. According to one hypothesis, she comes from a cross between Kövérszőlő(Grasă de Cotnari) x Leányka. According to a second hypothesis, it is identical to the Fetească Regală variety. In both cases, this would be a Romanian origin. DNA analyses carried out in 2009 disproved both hypotheses, but Leányka could be a parent.

Characteristics

The medium-ripening, high-yielding vine is susceptible to botrytis and downy mildew. It produces fresh, low-alcohol white wines with moderate acidity and a floral aroma. These are very popular in Hungary as typical summer wines. It is often used as a blending partner to add acidity.
