The winery is located in the municipality of Offstein (Wonnegau area) in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. It began in 1972 with 2.5 hectares and 600 litres of wine. Since then, the winery, which is run by Matthias, has developed into a model business, cultivating vineyards in the Rheinhessen and Pfalz wine-growing regions. The variety of different soils and microclimatic peculiarities is reflected in the terroir- and variety-typical wines.
The vineyards cover 40 hectares of vines in the Engelsberg (Offstein), Schneckenberg (Heppenheim), Römerschanze and Sonnenhang (Eimsheim) vineyards in the Rheinhessen region and Herrgottsacker (Dirmstein) in the Pfalz region. The white wine varieties Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Müller-Thurgau are cultivated, as well as the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Blauer Portugieser, Dornfelder, Frühburgunder, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, St. Laur ent, Cabernet Dorsa and Cabernet Mitos. Different clones of individual grape varieties are used. Organic cultivation is carried out according to ecological and sustainable criteria while respecting biodiversity.
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
