The winery is located in the municipality of Assmannshausen in the German wine-growing region of Rheingau. The foundation stone was laid by Josef Kesseler, who took over the former winegrowers' cooperative in Assmannshausen in 1924. His grandson August Kesseler has been responsible for the estate since 1977. He gained practical experience in France, Italy and the USA. The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Höllenberg (Assmannshausen), Pfaffenwies and Schlossberg, Seligmacher (Lorchhausen), as well as Berg Roseneck, Berg Schlossberg and Bischofsberg (Rüdesheim). More than half of the vineyards are planted with Pinot Noir, some of which are more than 70 years old, and the white wine varieties Riesling and Silvaner. A great deal of attention is paid to quality-enhancing yield limitation with initial thinning after flowering and selective manual harvesting of healthy, physiologically ripe grapes.
