The presidential republic Kenia is located on the east coast Africa, with the capital city being Nairobi, covering an area of 580,367 km². It borders South Sudan to the northwest, Ethiopia to the north, Somalia to the northeast, Tanzania to the south, Uganda to the west, and the Indian Ocean to the southeast. Kenia gained independence from Great Britain in 1963.

Since the early 1980s, viticulture has been practiced on a small scale. The vineyards are located at Lake Naivasha at an elevation of 2,000 m above sea level on the volcanic soil of Mount Longonot (near Nairobi). The white wine varieties Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Colombard, and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as the red wine varieties Carnelian and Ruby Cabernet are cultivated. A harvest is possible every eight months, resulting in three harvests over two years. The main producer is Lake Naivasha Vineyards, founded by the Irish pioneers John and Guy d’Olier.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
