The cooperative winery is located in the South Tyrolean capital of Bolzano, in the Italian region of Trentino-South Ty rol (Trentino - Alto Adige). It was founded in 2001 through the merger of the Gries Winery (founded in 1908) and the St. Magdalena Winery (founded in 1930). Klaus Sparer is the managing director, Stephan Filippi is the cellar master. The 220 members have 350 hectares of vineyards in the steep slopes around St. Magdalena on the northern edge of the town and in the alluvial Lagrein area in the southern part of the town of Gries. The farms are located between 200 and 800 metres above sea level.

The white wine varieties Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Ruländer, Gewürztraminer, Silvaner, Sauvignon Blanc, Müller-Thurgau and Goldmuskateller, as well as the red wine varieties Lagrein (60 ha), Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Rosenmuskateller and Vernatsch are cultivated and processed. The traditional South Tyrolean pergola method of cultivation is almost exclusively reserved for the Vernatsch grape variety; all other varieties are increasingly cultivated on wire frames (trellis).

Sigi Hiss

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
