The red grape variety originates from Ukraine. Synonyms are Adzhi Ibram Kara, Agii Ibram, Capitan Kara, Chaban Khalil Kara, Kapitan Yani Kara and Ridzhaga. The parentage is unknown. The medium-maturing, high-yielding vine is susceptible to powdery mildew. It produces full-bodied red wines with soft tannins. The variety is cultivated in the Sudak region in the Solnechnaya Dolina (Sun Valley) area of the Crimea. There, it is generally used in blends with other local Ukrainian varieties such as Ekim Kara in sweet dessert wines. Among other things, it is a component in the well-known brand wine Chorny Doktor. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
