The white grape variety originates from Georgia. Synonyms are Capistoni Tetri, Kabistoni Tetri, Kapistoni Tetri Femelle, Kapistona, Kapistoni, Kapistoni Blanc, Kapistoni Imperatinski, Tetri Kapistoni and Zekroula Kapistoni. It is said to be one of the oldest Georgian varieties. The parentage is unknown. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2006, it is genetically different from the two Georgian varieties Kapistoni Imeretinsky and Kapistoni Rgvali. It is not a mutation of the red variety Aleksandrouli (with the synonym Kabistoni). It is an all-female grape variety. It is susceptible to powdery mildew, but resistant to downy mildew. It produces neutral-tasting white wines that are used for still and sparkling wines. The variety is grown in the west of the country, mainly in the Imeretia region. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
