The winery is located in the municipality of Pölich (Bernkastel area) in the German wine-growing region of Mosel. The Kanzlerhof was built in 1578 as the front house of the Maximiner Abbey in Trier. Today, it is owned by the Schömann-Kanzler family, and Alfred Schömann is responsible for its operation. A wine tavern and a guest house are attached. The vineyards cover 4.5 hectares of vines in the Held (Pölich) and Blattenberg (Mehring) sites. They are mainly planted with Riesling, which is partly planted ungrafted, as well as the varieties Pinot Blanc, Müller-Thurgau and Pinot Noir. Natural, environmentally friendly viticulture is consistently practised. The dry wines are generally vinified in stainless steel. The spontaneously fermented sweet Rieslings, on the other hand, are matured in traditional wooden barrels. In suitable years, noble sweet Beerenauslese and ice wines are also vinified. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and noble brandies (marc, fruit) are also produced. The winery is a member of the Bernkasteler Ring.
