The winery is located in the municipality of Girlan (Cornaiano) in the Italian wine-growing area of South Tyrol (Trentino-Alto Adige region). It was founded in 1979 by Karl Martini and his son Gabriel. Today, Gabriel Martini runs the winery together with his two children Lukas and Maren. The vineyards cover 32 hectares. The white wine varieties Weißburgunder(Pinot Blanc), Grauburgunder(Pinot Gris), Chardonnay, Riesling, Goldmuskateller, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer and Kerner are cultivated, as well as the red wine varieties Lagrein, Vernatsch(Schiava Grossa), Rosenmuskateller, Cabernet Sauvignon and Blauburgunder(Pinot Noir). The large range of products is mainly produced with the DOC designations Kalterersee, St. Magdalener and Südtiroler, as well as IGT (Landwein). The wines are produced in the lines "Klassik" (basic line of fruity and aromatic wines), "Gurnzan" (full-bodied, high-alcohol red wines), "Palladium" (special wines in small quantities), "Maturum" (specialities aged in barriques) and "Dessert wines" (sweet and dry). A few specialities are also bottled in magnum bottles (1.5 l).
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
