One of the ten cru locations of the French Beaujolais area in the four municipalities of Juliénas, Jullié, Meringes and Pruzilly. According to legend, the first two were already founded in Julius Caesar's (100-44 BC) times and are said to have been named after him. The vineyards cover 600 hectares and are situated on deep, very clayey soil of volcanic origin. The robust red wines are pressed from the Gamay variety and only develop after three to four years of maturation.
