One of the ten vineyards classified as Cru in the French Beaujolais area in the communes of Juliénas, Jullié, Meringes and Pruzilly. According to legend, the first two were founded as early as the time of Julius Caesar (100-44 BC) and were supposedly named after him. The vineyards cover 600 hectares and lie on deep, clayey soil of volcanic origin. The robust red wines are pressed from Gamay and only develop after three to four years of maturation.
