Jug

Old measure for beer and wine (also Maßkanne), which was common in Germany with regional differences in value. It was used, for example, in Saxony (0.936 to 1 litre), Bavaria (1.07), Hanover (1.95), Mecklenburg (1.81 to 1.85), Oldenburg (1.37 to 1.42) and Schleswig-Holstein (1.81 or 2.17). In the North German Confederation, it was a metric body measure of the order of weights and measures with one litre. There was also a hollow measure called "Kännchen" with 0.124 litres. See also under hollow measures.
