Jubiläumsrebe

The white grape variety is a new variety between Frühroter Veltliner x Grauer Portugieser. Synonyms are Cvai Gold, Jubilejni, Jubilens Rebe, Jubileumsrebe and Klosterneuburg 24-125. The correct parentage only became apparent through DNA analyses carried out in 1998, because until then Blauer Portugieser x Blaufränkisch had been wrongly assumed. The cross was made in 1922 at the Klosterneuburger Weinbauinstitut in Lower Austria by Dr. Fritz Zweigelt (1888-1964). On the occasion of the centenary of this institute, the vine was presented to the public in 1960, from which the name is derived. The medium to late ripening vine is resistant to botrytis. It yields rather neutral, low-acid white wines, which are mainly used for the production of sweet wine. Stocks exist in Hungary (0.5 ha) and Austria (6.5 ha). In 2016, 7 hectares of vines were reported with a decreasing trend (Kym Anderson).
