The winery is located in the municipality of Biebelsheim ( Bingen area) in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. It was created in 1995 through the merger of three family wineries. The name goes back to the three founders of the three wineries: Johann Fischborn (Schufried), Johannes (Hans) Haas and Jens (northern German for Johannes) Heinemeyer. Johanninger is a registered trademark. The owners are the Haas, Heinemeyer and Schufried families, who also manage the various sections of the winery.

The vineyards cover 23 hectares of vines in three growing areas. In the Rheingau growing region, the Bodental-Steinberg (Lorch) and Höllenberg(Assmannshausen) vineyards are planted exclusively with Pinot Noir on red phyllite slate. In the Nahe wine-growing region, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris are grown in the municipality of Kreuznach on the shell limestone soils of the lower Nahe. In the Rheinhessen wine-growing region, Müller-Thurgau, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Silvaner are grown in the Honigberg vineyard in the municipality of Biebelsheim, and St. Laurent in the Kieselberg vineyard. Noble sweet specialities from Beerenauslese to Eiswein are also produced. Of particular importance are the sparkling wine factory with bottle-fermented sparkling wines and the own distillery with grape variety brandies (pomace).
