The traditional winery is located in the municipality of Burg Layen in the German wine-growing region of Nahe. In 2002, Johann Baptist Schäfer handed over the management of the winery to his son Sebastian, already the fourth generation of the family. Sebastian had been responsible for vinification since 1997. The vineyards cover eight hectares in the Schlossberg (Burg Layen), Goldloch and Pittermännchen (Dorsheim) vineyards. One third of the vineyards are planted with Riesling, as well as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Scheurebe. There is a selective hand harvest and gentle processing.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
