The "International Wineries for Climate Action" association was founded in 2019 by the wine multinationals Torres (Spain) and Jackson Family Wines (California). The two companies are pioneers in the development of suitable measures to combat the negative effects of climate change. De IWCA is a working group of 22 wineries (as of 2022) committed to a science-based approach to reducing carbon emissions across the wine industry. The aim is to develop a standardised methodology for recording annual greenhouse gas emissions and to make this available to small wineries at low cost. This results in a commitment to a regional emissions reduction or decarbonisation plan.
