IVDP

The Port Wine Institute IVP (Instituto do Vinho do Porto) , founded by the Society of Winegrowers (Casa do Douro) and the Board of Port Wine Exporters (Grémio dos Exportadores do Vinho do Porto) in 1933, was the joint control body and lobby for all port wine until 2003. In that year, the CIRDD (Comissão Interprofissional da Região Demarcada do Douro) was integrated into the IVP. Since then, the institute has been responsible for the production of port and wines from the Douro region under the expanded name of the IVDP (Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e Porto). The origin goes back to the "Companhia Geral da Agricultura das Vinhas do Alto Douro" (General Society for the Viticulture of the Upper Douro), which was founded in 1756 by the Marquês de Pombal (1699-1782).

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
